Dessert with Discussion: Hidden Worlds of Leaves

Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2024
7-8:30 p.m. ET

MSU's W. K. Kellogg Biological Station,
3700 E. Gull Lake Dr., Hickory Corners, MI 49060
In-person
or
 Streamed Online via Zoom webinar

Dr. Kadeem Gilbert will discuss how plants shape the miniature ecosystems they create on their leaves.

Presenter:  Gilbert studies interactions between plants and other organisms (e.g., insects or micro-organisms). He is particularly interested in understanding how leaf physiological traits can change features of their external environment (e.g., pH), thus influencing the conditions that leaf inhabitants experience. He currently works with some familiar plants like cotton, beet, and corn, but also works extensively with more peculiar, carnivorous plant species, which can be found growing not only in distant tropical places but also right here in Michigan.

Dessert with Discussion is a free lecture series that connects the KBS and MSU research community with our local community. This series is made possible through generous donations to the Dessert with Discussion Fund.
